Here's the curriculum.

"Memes are Racist and Sexist and Ableist and Transphobic and Microaggressions and White Privilege."

For a whole semester.

a professor who goes by the name Meme Lord

Dear God

This is most likely a joke article, though. UC Berkeley is the best of the best as far as global research universities go; a professor with enough academic capital to found his own department would probably have to be a superstar, yet the article never mentions a name. There's also this:

Meme Lord: […] students who spend comparatively more time on meme pages are predisposed to greater financial success in the future, not to mention an increase in quality of life.

Chill out, hothead.

I don't know about a whole department, though we unfortunately have English courses which incorporate memes and viral videos in our curriculum. You know, "to be a modern rhetor".

@Jankovic @Black Graphic T: You two seem to have forgotten that within universities there are multiple departments of study. I know exactly what you're expressing disgust in. However, which departments are guilty? It sure as hell aren't the STEM departments I can tell you that, and Berkeley is a strong university in that regard. No, it's a specific department (or two) which are solely responsible for all that cringe going on over there.
