NSFW thumbnails don't stretch. In fact, if this is recent it should look like….

- A Hat in Time and Super Mario crossover pic. sure as hell not NSFW. While fanart, it's mememtic with crossover.
- Looney Tunes single panel comic. While arguably NSFW fanart, that's rather the joke how female cast being naked is seen as problematic, but male being naked is fine.
-Fire Emblem looks like anime but is isn't.
- A Hat in Time comic that is not NSFW
- PASWG restyle meme done with Cuphead. Arguably it is still anime fanart though, so I'll give it a half pass, even though it is also meme.
- Actually NSFW image. Good job.
- A Hat in Time version of a meme with Johntron… not NSFW image.
- Joke about Earthbound, not NSFW.
- Again, Fire Emblem looks like anime but isn't.
- For some reason, marks out the actual NSFW image to make it anime… Guess it is possible that it was anime NSFW but the gallery has moved since then so we'll never know.

Good effort Jacob but you're missing the OP's point, which is that there is way too much softcore porn and anime shit in the trending images section of what is supposedly a memesite. And they are correct.

"Trending" literally refers to whatever KYM users are most interested in. You don't hate the trending page; it's just an algorithm based on pageviews over time. You hate KYM users, which is pretty much everyone here. It's better than the 3-month period where the top search was always some variation of "boobs", "ass", or "Undertale" – or worse, the 2 year period of "My Little Pony" dominating every search. You want to know why this kind of content is all over the trending gallery; it's because that's exactly what users look for:

Okay, but let's just ignore the fact that the image in question is not an actual screenshot but photoshopped, and, as you say ParticleMare, the central tenet of the image still hold true. What about it?

As Doeoeod said, trending status is determined by things like pageviews, upvotes, comments, and favorites. Are you proposing that we limit what people should be able to upvote and favorite? That we make it so that NSFW images can only be seen as the pop up they currently have and remove people actually being able to see the page isn't on so the don't get page views and people can't comment on? I'm sure those will be popular decisions that the userbase will embrace.

Alternatively, while this has not been suggested, we could always control this from the other end. Make it so only a small quota of NSFW and anime images (or anything that is even remotely anime-esque as illustrated by my first post) are uploaded. I'm sure this will also prove popular with the userbase and won't be abused by just uploading NSFW images without the NSFW tag or uploading more anime images to non-anime galleries. This new system should clearly take priority over all the other projects the admins have for the site. It also certainty isn't at odds with the admin's "as long as it isn't against rules, it's fine" mindset, which we can't seem to change on character entries despite the entire mod team -1 disagreeing with them.

I mean what do you expect? This is a meme and internet documentation site, people who hang a lot on the internet what do they usually like? Porn, Anime, videogames, angsting about being so alone… and that is the type of stuff that trends! We could have more memes trending, but honestly current memes kind of meh (especially with Trump overload) so you can blame the memes just as much.

I have to admit that since around 2014 I've been annoyed that the galleries tend to be littered with softcore porn.

Reminder that actual softcore porn is already banned, as it involves both explicit nudity and sexual positions. Characters in revealing outfits =/= softcore porn.

I've probably made like 6-ish forum posts about this but I can only really be assed to find one or two. The long and short of it is that for each new addition to KYM's "filter" system, the site must now separately index and thumbnail gallery images for each possible configuration. The "show fewer ponies" button was a super extreme case because it had overwhelming support. If we were to add, say, a hypothetical "show fewer politics" button, we've now doubled the possible configurations for which KYM has to separately index and account for – in other words, it's twice as hardware-intensive. This would then become exponentially worse for each new filter we create, such as no NSFW or no spoiler images. Allowing users to systematically filter tags the way Booru sites do is simply beyond the capabilities of the system we're on. We can file this away with the metric fuckload of other problems that would require a complete overhaul of KYM. If you really, really, really think it's such a huge issue that it's interfering with day-to-day performance of the site, hit up James or use the Contact form.

It should be noted, however, that it's completely feasible to hide NSFW images from appearing in your gallery view with a client-side plugin, like the one by ArchaicEX. You can also find a thread about said plugin here where I say exactly the same things as I do above.

It isn't just characters in revealing outfits though. There's more than that. Otherwise 95% of Kill la Kill's images would be NSFW. It's either strong fetishes, revealing outfits, ass and boob shots (With no nipples) and girls groping each other (Again without nipples).

Hardcore porn is explicit nudity and sexual positions and typically straight up sex. You don't have to be Highschool DxD levels of boobs and ass to be softcore porn.

Does that mean you hate us?
Because we, the users, are the reason they trend.

I've only been here 3 years but I'm pretty damn sure it's only escalated more and more. At this point I don't even want to know how long I'd have to scroll to find even one page that doesn't have NSFW on it, and even then it'd likely only be because one person uploaded a shitload in bulk.

To be fair… 2017 has been a VERY boring year with the exception of some really good videogames, there really isn't that much to do besides porn (and talking about Trump and current events and those are getting PAINFUL). We have also been losing steam in a lot of fanbases like jojo ,gravity falls, undertale, adventure time, so the amount of topics is also lower. So yeah, it is either softcore porn that is getting kind of stale, or just boredom. Lets hope that 2018 will be more fun, it won't be better but hopefully more fun.

which is weird because I remember close to nothing from that year, I rmember a lot from 2012 and 2014, but little from 2013 on this site

I find that very hard to believe that 2017 has been boring. There have been a lot of really good things happening this year that are actually meme-related, even if a lot of those things involve video games. For example, the release of the Crash Bandicoot remaster sparked the entire "WOAH" meme remix that was all over the meme side of YouTube, along with low-poly Crash memes. Crash itself sparked the whole "It's just like Dark Souls" thing that has been continuing all the way to Cuphead and possibly beyond, and Cuphead was a huge success as a meme, albeit before it became entirely about the mermaid. I noticed that for a very short while, the trending gallery was once again just memery about Cuphead, and it was very pleasantly surprising.

As for actual memes this year, the three most notable ones that I've seen are "Toddposting", "See that guy over there?", which didn't last too terribly long, but was a good exploitable, and "Virgin v. Chad", which is an actually good meme that takes actual creativity and is still going on. The problem is that nobody pays it enough attention to appreciate it.

So yeah, I disagree that 2017 has been "boring". It's actually been quite enjoyable, if you sift through enough of it. It's just that there are more degenerates people out there interested in anime tiddies than anything else, which isn't going to slow down any time soon.

I thought Expanding Brain was a pretty notable meme. It's gotten old now but it use to be a good exploitable.
