Your going to have to set your Non Unicode fonts To Japanese.

?
What operating system do you use? I know I have trouble getting Japanese characters to display on systems running Windows XP, but they do display properly on Windows Vista and Windows 7.
I use xp
Windows XP users have to install the East Asian Language Support. Go to Control Panel>Regional and Language Options>Languages Tab and check "Install files for East Asian Languages" and click OK. You may be asked for your original Windows XP disc so make sure you have it.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 have East Asian language support already integrated.
Oh yeah… I might wana explain… O forget everyone's not a techie…
Mine has been doing weird things. sometimes the Japanese shows up and other times it shows as weird characters and translators don't pick it up. It's usually when there is an embedded box with links in them. It sends me into a MAD RAGE!
I have the language support installed and I use XP.
