why was i not informed of the whole ""team dictionary edit" thing?

Hmmm, Griff.. The XChat thing actually does not work for me. May i advise using Pidgin?

You have to properly configure it to have it work correctly.
From XChat: XChat→Network List→Freenode→Edit→Add→Change name to: irc.freenode.net→Under "Favorite Channels, put #knowyourmeme→If you haven't already, select (click on) the channel you just added and tick the box that says "Connect to selected server only"
Once it's set up, click "Close", then click "Connect". You should be in the KYM IRC.
