Image Gallery Guidelines

Alright, due to recent problems concerning the Image Galleries, we've decided to create a set of Guidelines for the users to follow to avoid other problems occurring again:

These Rules apply to ALL galleries

No Porn/Gore

No posting of Porn and Gore images to image galleries, unless the gallery requires such material (e.g. Oh God What Have I Done? or Daily Dose/Piccolo Dick), in which we ask that you contact a mod or admin so that we may decide the best course of action. Anything outside of these galleries must be marked as NSFW (Not Safe For Work). Image Editors who come across unmarked NSFW content are to mark the images accordingly. Consistent failure to comply will lead to suspensions and eventually bans. For more information about the site's rules on NSFW content, please check the NSFW Guidelines.

No Spam

Spam content is forbidden within galleries, such as advertising and trollbait. Using the gallery in order to advertise your own generated content will lead to possible suspensions, whereas trollbait will lead to suspensions, with bans being enforced due to consistent failure to comply. We also ask that users report any duplicate images, so that they may be dealt with accordingly.

Meta Content

Any Meta Content directly relating to the site (Such as NSFW Thumbnail Parodies) should be uploaded to our KnowYourMeme Entry Gallery. Content containing popular in-jokes (Such as The Goat) or user parodies (Such as this) should not be uploaded to any gallery, and should be tagged with Kymtheon. Site screenshots (such as images showing image gallery view counts and trending bar arrangements) must not be uploaded under any condition, and will be deleted. Likewise, images related to the content or state of the entry (such as Marvel's Deadpool) are unrelated to the entry and therefore will be removed.

Stay Relevant

If an image can go into a more relevant gallery, do not upload it into one of the umbrella galleries (Such as Reaction Faces, Anime, GIF, Childhood Ruined, Childhood Enhanced, Alternate Universe, Tumblr and Crossover). It is okay to upload a single image or video to multiple galleries as long as the two are equally relevant. For example this image should be uploaded to the Tomodachi Life gallery, but would not go into the Tumblr gallery due to the former being more relevant to the subject of the image. However, this image would be more suited to the Tumblr gallery, due to there being no more relevant gallery available, as well as the fact that the Tumblr reply is more of the focus of the image. As well as this, we will no longer allow single images of things you like/dislike (such as this or this) being uploaded to galleries such as Childhood Ruined/Enhanced, for example, due to the subjective nature of these images. Images of this nature will be deleted on site.

Tag All Your Uploads

When uploading your images, we ask that you please add any relevant tags that might apply to the image. This means that it is easier for users to find the images they want by using the tag system when searching. Please add as many relevant tags as applicable, using ',' or 'tab' to separate tags. Image Editors who come across any untagged or wrongly tagged images are to tag these images accordingly. Also, please do not add joke tags unless accompanied by legitimate tags, as this makes it harder for us to find untagged images.

Source Your Uploads

We also ask that users source their work in the notes section, if applicable, so to give original creators credit for their work. It can be hard to find sources after uploading, so we ask that users please do this beforehand if possible

Mark All Spoilers

Any spoiler images posted to galleries must be marked as such. Due to the difficult nature of defining what makes a spoiler, we ask that you please follow the guidelines of 'If you have to think about it, it is most likely a spoiler". Image Editors who come across unmarked spoiler images should mark the images accordingly. Should any disagreements come up over whether an image should be classed as a spoiler, we ask that you please contact a mod or admin, so that we can determine the best course of action.

Be Friendly

We ask that you please maintain a friendly atmosphere within the image galleries. Content posted with the aim to slander other posters, the entry poster (such as OP is a Faggot), further personal agendas, or general public shaming, will be dealt with severely, and will lead to suspension and eventually bans.

If there is anything you are unsure of, please leave a message in this thread, and we will respond as soon as possible.

I wish I had your optimism.

In any case, the next main thing is to get this to where the most active image uploaders can see it. A feature and a sticky helps, but a lot of people in the forums don't go into the entries or galleries, and vice versa.

I've posted a link in the comment section of all the featured umbrella galleries, so that should help a little. I'm not sure what else we can do though.

THANK YOU! Basically what everyone wanted but couldn't put into words. Too bad most of the people who need to see this most will never lay their eyes on it… A way I try to spread awareness is if I see someone constantly uploading untagged images, I PM them politely about it. Most of the times when I've done it, that person has started tagging (at least a for a while.) It works better if it's someone you know a bit because most likely they value your opinion somewhat.

Your help and input is greatly appreciated, Spider. There will always be those obnoxious posters that won't follow guidelines and act like it's the mods job to tag and clean up their posts for them, but as more and more users follow the guidelines other users will (hopefully) start to follow suit.

Thank You for further clarity of the uses of the Image Galleries. May a rain of upvotes be showered upon you. . .

Frontpaged images can be tagged, but you must do it in the Admin Area on the homepage (only accessible if you're a scrapbooker)

Problem is you have to look for it by filtering through the 177,000+ and growing images there. You can't really tag it while it's still relevant and on the front-page without sheer luck.

Alright guys, if since I'm a media mod now, and it's starting to derail the thread: if there are any frontpagged images that need tags, PM with a link to them and I will tag them. If you can, leave me suggestions on what tags you would think are relevant.

This thread is something that needs to be frontpaged or something. People NEED to see this, considering images are a massive part of this site.

It was a pleasure to take even a small part in molding these new image gallery rules. Surely but slowly things will change for the better.

This should be front paged right now.

This one I like in particular. Let's hope people pay attention to it.

Hopefully we can also say goodbye to Spongebob title-cards and shit being uploaded to the ruined childhood gallery, but my guess is that there will still be a lot of people shitposting in there. At least the images will be deleted this time.

Did someone said "Media Mods"? We can help with that. After all, dealing and helping users who doesn't know where to upload images is our job.

Okay, down to business. I want to make a clarification/addition.

Meta Content

I want to make it clear for all, do NOT submit shit into the KYM gallery. The entry itself is meta but that doesn't mean you can upload shit to it.

I know how you guys work: monkey see, monkey do. If I see some of you starts to fuck up with that gallery (or any other) I will delete the pictures and ask for a lock.

Stay Relevant

It applies to subcultures (especially those for shows/animes/fandoms) as well.

Subcultures have a good range of what can be relevant or not. If you upload an image that fits in "Cosplay" and, lets say, the Kill la Kill gallery; upload it on the first one.

Media Mods can edit frontpaged images, Scrapbookers can't however.

The new Media Mods offered to fix it, so shoot them a PM if you notice anything wrong with them.

A few issues I have surrounding the source rule:

1) Most of my uploads originate from Tumblr, most of which are simply humorous banter between multiple parties; as such, a source to the post wouldn't achieve much. That's not mentioning how most of them publish usernames to blogs that can be found as simply as typing [username].tumblr.com in the address bar. Will I have to source all my Tumblr posts from now on, even though doing so is largely unnecessary given the nature of most of my posts?

2) Say for instance, I find this piece of artwork on [random site] that would make a perfect addition to [random KYM image gallery]. Problem is, the aforementioned site did not bother with leaving a link to [original artist], and I'm dead certain the site where I got the image from was not its origin. It wouldn't do any good sourcing the artwork to a site that wasn't its actual source, so would I upload the image without its "source," or link it anyway?

@Grim
I'd say that both of your examples are fine. The idea is to source your work if applicable, so if you think that the place you found the source is not original, or are just Tumblr comments, it should be fine to just leave them.

There is always Google reverse image search. Sometimes it doesn't yield too many good results (especially if the image is less than a few days old, or it has spread everywhere and no one bothered to source it.) Still, I use it like 15-30 times a day when trying to source other people's uploads on the site.

Also, for some reason, Google seems to consider Pixiv part of the deeper web. To get Pixiv image sources through Google generally means going through a booru, if google finds it at all. Sauce Nao, though, is pretty accurate, but generally only when it comes to sites like Pixiv.

Just try to do it before uploading an image. Lots of times I've looked for source using Google and the KYM uploaded image is the first result, or worse, other people cite KYM of the source of a piece of fanart.

Considering we are a documentation site, I think at least some effort in looking for the original source of the image should be routine. Of course, sometimes that's not going to happen (work has been deleted by artist and unable to be linked to secondary boorus, the image has mutated to the point that search results only revel variants, no valid reverse image search results).

Second.

I think, at first, we should encourage users to cite images/illustrations from primary sources to reduce "sourcing" tasks. In other words, we had better warn people copying images from Danbooru pages, reblog posts on Tumblr, or many other rude blog/news posts which don't display original posts of photos/illustrations.

And for the sake of it, it must be a duty for KYM to support oEmbed provided by image uploaders or illustrators communities.

Besides, embed.ly which is used for video-embedding in KYM also supports many image uploaders including deviantART and imgur. It would be nice to apply this to the image gallery as well, though it doesn't support pixiv which doesn't offer Embed API officially.

I think I may have done something to make the mods angry, I keep trying to upload this GIF https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/787/446/ad2.gif but it appears blank. Do I now have a bounty on my head?

¿You mean this?

For some reason it doesn't appear, try uploading it again.

Or try with Imgur

Now how about a report button for the violating images?

Some mods are a little afraid it might be abused, though we may get one up eventually. However, if there are images that you think are against the rules, please feel free to PM Loli, Deltamelon, or myself, or use the Image Cleaning Thread to bring them to our attention if we missed them.

How is using a meme on a meme site a punishable offense?
OP is always a faggot unless he delivers in which case he becomes a cool faggot

I'm new here and trying to figure all this out (technically I'm hopeless). I've got some memes that I'm trying to figure out the proper category top put then in and was hoping you can help. The subject is about the quarantine and coronavirus. I also have lots of other memes as well. Anxious to get started! Thank you!

Covid memes should go here . Just press the '+ Add an image' button and fill out the form.

I'm sorry, technically challenged! I fill out all the info and it takes my pic but when I push the submit button it says "submitting" but it never does submit it. I've tried a few times and I can come back an hour later and it still shows "submitting". I've posted 14 pics just the regular way (not for the contest) and it post them every time without a problem. Thank you!
