Do they ever go too far? They rig votes, harass children playing online games, harass the families of those who have epilepsy, and that's just a little bit of it.

So what do you think. Does 4chan ever go to far?

I mean, free speech is one thing, but just because you have it, doesn't mean you have to use it in the worst possible way.

(They do however, oppose scientology, which is NOT bad.) Damn spell check tried to make me capitalize scientology.

I don't mean to sound like a buzzkill, but what do you really think?

Now that I just did a quick bit of research, 4chan and anonymous don't seem AS bad.

4chan isn't any singular entity responsible for anything. It is a community made up of many anonymous individuals. That is all. Project Chanology was cool, but it's not like you can even accurately say that all of 4chan actively takes part in any of it. It's just an Anonymous Community. What people are capable of doing from there is up to them.

Anonymous is the final boss of the Internet.
I saw an image summing up the fact that they helped arresting a cat molester but haven't any scruples making fun of the Holocaust.
They behave as they please and only to get some lulz. Free speech is just a flag they like to brandish to justify all of their actions.

Concerning the Chanology project, I have seen many many critics and disdain from so-called "oldfags", among others, about the fact that people went to protest in real life.
There is nothing and, at the same time, everything to expect from that community.

Something you should be aware of, 4chan is not Anonymous. It is crucial that you make that distinction. Anonymous separated from 4chan on /b/-day.
Furthermore, 4chan is not evil. Anonymous is not evil. Anonymous is humanity manifested, and 4chan is a collection of idiots posting whatever lurks in their subconscious, trolls, and sick fucks.

It is written somewhere (probably on ED) that Anonymous are almost always /b/tards, but that not all /b/tards are Anonymous. The chan boards are just a medium through which Anonymous manifests itself. I think the most interesting thing about Anon is that it cannot be clearly defined. Those that are naive/ignorant refer to it as a group, whereas it's better defined as either a concept, a form of identity, an ideal or, better still, a combination of the three.
