brainstorming a game

so yeah

making a game
looking back at my previous games, i find them pretty cringeworthy

maybe its just something all creators do, or maybe they were genuinely bad.

i dunno, but this time im gonna brainstorm as usual, but ask people their thoughts to ensure the final product isnt a steaming pile of dog feces

so i literally just got the idea today, so not much has been done yet, but heres what i got.

one day, a giant castle, i mean giant like top 5 biggest mansions combined, plops outta the ground.

this shifts the plates, causing massive earthquake that destroys everything

the survivors are poor as dirt, and they have options

help try and rebuild, or get inside this massive castle in hopes of finding treasure

setting is your typical fantasy setting, and prior to massive earthquake, world was a giant pangea like supercontinent. its going to be built on rpg maker vx ace, so obviously will be a turn based rpg

in terms of characters, i only have one, cade, a treasure hunter who is greedy, smug, and pretty much out for himself, but is a good person deep down. if the player makes certain choices, cade can join the party

thats what i got so far, please, gimme some give feedback.

(yes, i know, grammar wasnt amazing, but didnt feel like putting apostrophes everywhere)

I like your castle idea. I recommend you read this comic called Tower of God, at least the first 5 comic pages, since it deals with a scenario similar to this where many beings of various races and backgrounds are trapped in a giant tower.

Also depending on what you're going for, you might go for a tower instead of a castle. A castle would be great if you're trying to make the building somewhat of a maze with a myriad of rooms of many shapes and fillings. Something similar can be achieved with a tower, but the players always know beyond a doubt each time they go up a level they are making progress, whereas in a mansion that would be ambiguous in terms of whether or not it's progress. Depends on what you're going for.

Whatever you do, I would recommend you first focus on who the castle's king is and what his subjects within the castle would be like. Good luck.

I thought it was a rather neat idea. Personally, I'd be less inclined to go for a whole "this shifts the plates, causing massive earthquake that destroys everything" and instead go for a "holy cow, why is there now suddenly a Brazilian-Nigerian border!? What magic caused this instantaneous effect that had no immediate physical repercussion?" and wondering how everyone would deal with it. Would this magic continent-warp happen again? How would countries deal with the new neighbors and loss of coast line and new climates, etc.

In short, I really like the continents shifting idea, but I feel like the whole apocalypse thing has been done to death (as shallow as that sounds) and unless you can do it well, I wouldn't focus too much on it.
