Me and my friend recentley have been trying to get into DnD so I thought: why not learn how to play better by playing with people who already know or what to learn how to play.
The problems are tho: who'd be willing to do it, where/how would we play together (skype, tinychat, hangouts, teamspeak, ECT) what edition would we play (I only have books for 4th abd 2nd Advanced) and Who'd be the DM?
If you would like to participate or have any suggestions or both please post here so we can try to organize this abd hopefully play. Thanks!

I did literally just start working on making a forum game RPG. I will not have it ready for at least another day. It wouldn't be much like DnD, exactly; I had no plans to enforce players to be in the same party and the game would be more open world than a typical DnD campaign.

I have played DnD before but I do not have any of the rule books and if I entered a straight-and-true DnD game I would be flying blind, but I'm willing to join if it becomes a thing. I'd be more interested in being DM than playing, but I have never done that before and, again, I don't have a rule book.

same 4 me, I'd like to play, but have no idea of what to do.

@minty and twisty like Syndic I could always send you my rule book pdf but i need to know which edition to send, there are like 5. I have books for 2nd and 4th but if anyone else has better suggetstions please tell me. If you're ok with this send me your email or gmail/pm to get the rule book pdfs.
also i found a good way to play together, a site called Roll20!
Its basically a online tabletop where you chat and play, well, DnD, its also compatible with Google Hangouts for voice chats!
If you guys are willing to start and learn to play today please post so I can get to organizing this.

@OP

I'd advise you to check out 1d4chan's (/tg/ wiki's) content for DnD. I'm sure you'll find something useful there. Most of the related articles are guides of editions, classes, races, monsters etc., some are homebrew stuff, the rest are usually smut, fanfiction, and memes/joke pages

I don't want to link it here, as some articles are NSFW and contain porn (which are labeled as Promotions!, so just search up "1d4chan DnD")

Hope this helps!

I did a bit of research on the different versions, and they are almost completely different games from the looks of things.

Version 1 seems to have the least rules, mostly leaving the game up to the arbitrary decisions of the DM.

Version 2 focuses on specialization, making it a party game in which players need to rely on each other.

Version 3 has the best character customization, the most rules, and the most math. It is the most popular version, even today. However, it suffers from game breaking elements and optimized character builds that basically allow you to become invincible very quickly if you know how to game the system. Typically the DM is allowed to intervene and change rules when such things happen. Pathfinder is an attempt to remove these imbalances.

Version 4 is reportedly the most balanced in combat and the easiest to pick up for a noobie, but relies heavily upon tabletop tactics and individual battles can last much longer than any other version. This would probably be the worst one to do over an internet connection, in my opinion.

Version 5 seems to surrender most of the rules to get back to the core of roleplaying, allowing a good amount of character customization and has fewer, more flexible rules.

I would suggest version 3, as it is probably the most popular for a good reason and sounds like it would work well over the internet.

For those of you interested in playing D&D, add me on skype. Search jjsyndic, should be a guy named Justin Johnson. That's me. If you cannot find me, PM me on KYM with your username and I will try to find you.

I discussed with NON in private messages and it seems that I am the only candidate to be DM for whatever our first campaign will be. I have chosen to go with version 3, but that can change if enough people veto my decision. I have done a lot of reading today and it looks like simply jumping straight into D&D without any very experienced players would be tough, so I am going to be cutting back on the rules a lot and we'll just add them as we go along and figure things out. I have plenty of dice, notebooks, and desk space, but we can also check out Roll20 if we want to. Lets get together on Skype first to sort things out.

I will sort out the details of when we can all be available to play with each of you individually. I will then set up a time for us all to be online simultaneously and discuss setting up the game. If anybody has any objections or suggestions tell me in Skype.

Just letting you all know that we have five players in the Skype group at the moment and the maximum total players is six. I want us to all meet up later today to discuss making characters, learning core basic rules, and possibly start the game.

If you've never done 12-man paired D&D with snacks as the betting pool, you've never lived.
Bonus points for the first KYM user to go full Welch.
I give it a week before peasant railgun shows up.

More bonus points if it uses one of these.

Is the spot still open?

I'd also like to join in if there's still room. I have a level 3 character from version 3 and have played on roll20 before (assuming that's what we're going with.

One thing to note though regardless of whether or not I'm able to join: Having played with my group both in person as well as on roll20, I can say without a doubt that DnD is 100 times more fun in oerson. If you guys have the choice between playing online and playing with a group of friends on an actual table, I 100% recommend the table.
