So I'm just throwing out an idea here. I want to draw some concepts later tonight but I was thinking about making this fairly short RPG game.
The story is that you, some teenage kid, are hanging out with his friends, until he finds a strange tablet. Turns out the tablet has information on how to turn special dots into special powers.
Yep, it's braille. I'm making a braille typing game essentially. But I promise, it's pretty cool. Besides I want to learn Braille anyways.
So anyways. You got this tablet. Now what? Turns out that the world's been going to shit and you gotta fuck up some shit with your buddies. Now that you're bestowed with magical powers, you pack your braillers and get on the road. By using them to write to the tablet, you can activate magic.
How do you activate these powers, you might ask? Well, each attack has the option to either do auto or manual input. The game will have several hundred to thousand manual inputs that have different effects (although some of them will have the similar effect, like wave or tsunami; just with different attributes).
Auto picks a word for you that has a decent effect for the attack. You don't have to use character modifiers here or punctuation, so it's easier to learn the letters. For the easiest spells, a letter or short letter combination is used. The larger spells use full words, after you've gotten used to the basic alphabet.
Manual lets you input almost any word you want. You can even use modifiers, such as a number modifier or capital modifier, or punctuation, as ways to add different effects to your attacks, such as changing the effect's duration or providing stat ups for yourself.
If you fuck up, the attack still goes through, but it's weaker than if you got it right. Kind of like Paper Mario or something. Same if it doesn't recognize the word. But I'll try to build a decently large vocabulary.
Oh, and New Game+ makes you use Grade 2 Braille, although I really need to study up my shit in order to get that working properly.
Do you think this is a good idea to pitch? I do like working on my pokemon game but I want to make something unique as well as something more visual (ironic, right?). I mean if I made it well enough I was thinking about pitching it on Steam or something.
