In the video, Hentschel provides commentary and threatening gestures about how he was almost a school shooter in 2013. The video was made on the John Carroll School campus without authorization. Investigators believe that Hentschel currently resides in California and was visiting relatives in Maryland when the video was created. Bel Air Police Department and our partner agencies (Harford County State's Attorney's Office,, Harford County Sheriff's Office, and the Maryland State Police) take threats of violence against our schools and community seriously. School Safety Concern - The John Carroll School [Bel Air, MD] On Saturday, January 4, 2025, the Bel Air Police Department received information from John Carroll School administrative staff related to a disturbing social media video. The video was created by what appears to be former student Daniel George Hentschel (W/M, 28 yoa), Los Angeles, California. In the video, Hentschel provides commentary and threatening gestures about how he was almost a school shooter in 2013. The video was made on the John Carroll School campus without authorization. Investigators believe that Hentschel currently resides in California and was visiting relatives in Maryland when the video was created. Bel Air Police Department and our partner agencies (Harford County State's Attorney's Office,, Harford County Sheriff's Office, and the Maryland State Police) take threats of violence against our schools and community seriously. We are conducting a full investigation into this matter and have consulted with the State's Attorney's Office concerning criminal charge(s) levied against Hentschel. There is no immediate threat to the community and patrol checks have been enhanced. Neither Hentschel nor his immediate family appear to have access to firearms. The Bel Air Police Department would like to thank the John Carroll School for alerting us to the post for investigative purposes.
