Things for which I've seen "Karen" blamed: • Hoarding hand sanitizer • Continuing to have playdates with other people's kids Selling essential oils as a cure • Being out in public too much Not supporting local businesses enough Things for which I've seen memes of men blamed: • [nothing] Someone tried to tell me that "Chad" is to blame for the spreading of the virus among spring breakers, but that feels pretty weak to me. When I have seen people share articles about college kids refusing to do social distancing, the featured image was of young women in bathing suits. Wonder why. I've criticized the "Karen" meme among my friends before, and they defended it as somehow still aligned with their wokeness because... "Karen" is a racist? | guess Karen is the same person calling the cops when they see minorities existing, according to my friends. But come. on. In the context of this pandemic, I saw someone blaming "Karen" for all of the empty shelves at their local drug store. So this person went to a store, saw that the shelves were empty, wanted to blame someone, and came up with a faceless woman with a stacked haircut. How is that not misogyny? I'm sure that there are women hoarding stuff.. for their families. It just seems awfully convenient that we're hearing from the authorities that we should have months worth of groceries stocked up and disinfect our houses every day and then when gasp! there aren't enough supplies to go around, it must be the fault of those terrible moms!
