"When Your Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister…" refers to a copypasta that goes "When your girlfriend has a twin sister but you get confused and end up fucking her dad." In early 2017, it spread through Instagram after it was paired with an image of a confused penguin from Madagascar.

Origin

On April 16th, 2013, SDPnoticias^[1] reported a story in which a man was caught sexually abusing his father-in-law after drinking too much alcohol. Four months later, that story appeared to be referenced by Spanish Facebook page WTF,^[2] who included the detail that the man intended to have sex with his wife's twin sister but ended up having sex with the dad.

On July 25th, 2016, Twitter user @DekerGL^[3] tweeted “Cuando tu novia tiene una hermana gemela, te confundes, y te coges al papá xdd” (English: “When your girlfriend has a twin sister, you get confused, and end up having sex with her dad”) with a still image of Private^[7], one of the main penguin characters featured in the 2005 American CG comedy film Madagascar. On February 5th, 2017, Instagram user @uncle_skooby^[6] uploaded the earliest known English-translation of the original image macro (shown below) On February 9th, Redditor canihabekosovopls submitted the image to /r/dankmemes^[4] and gained over 13,800 upvotes. On February 13th, elr3y asked /r/OutOfTheLoop^[5] asking about the origins of the phrase. That thread gained over 2,300 upvotes. Variations of the copypasta with other reaction images began spreading through Instagram as well.
