What's Your Street Name? or Street Name vs. Real Name is a trend in which people share their street name, meaning the nickname they use "on the streets," then reveal their real name, which is something much more common and less threatening than their street name. The trend began on TikTok in late August 2024 and continued to spread over the following months, also becoming popularized on YouTube Shorts. The majority of videos in the trend are fake and meant as parodies of the original video.

Origin

On August 19th, 2024, TikToker^[1] @corey__14 posted a video in which he asked several football players what their "street names" are, then asked them for their real names, garnering over 17.6 million views in a month. Each player gives a long, threatening, complex name for their street name, then a very normal name for their real name. For example, the first person's street name is "See-7-Hop-Out-With-That-Big-Drake" and his real name is "Cornelius."

Spread

The trend garnered viral spread across TikTok and YouTube over the following weeks. On August 20th, 2024, TikToker^[2] @samthakidd posted a video following the trend, garnering over 2.1 million views in a month. On August 21st, the same TikToker^[3] posted another video following the trend, garnering over 17 million views in a month.

On August 22nd, TikToker^[4] @piercemoves posted a video following the trend with several students in class, garnering over 26 million views in three weeks.

On August 28th, 2024, YouTuber^[5] Rexyena posted a video following the trend, in which they asked several students on a bus for their street and real names, garnering over 3.2 million views in two weeks.

On September 1st, YouTuber^[6] BolingBros posted a video participating in the trend in which a child says his street name is "Young Dill Bleed 'Em Strap Pat With The Splat" and his real name is "Gertrude," garnering over 800,000 views in 12 days.
