Vergil's Chair refers to a Devil May Cry 5 mod that alters the chair of Vergil, changing it from Qliphoth to a plastic deck chair. The edit was widely celebrated by the community and led to comedic edits using the mod.

Origin

On September 23rd, 2020, Nexusmods[1] user thezippotm uploaded a mod for the game Devil May Cry 5 that changed Qlipoth to a plastic chair. In the game, Vergil is seated on the chair before he gets challenged by Dante for the Yamato. The same day the mod was released, YouTube[2] user Oatomiru uploaded the earliest humorous video using the mod. It received more than 2.6 million views in two years (shown below).

Spread

The mod quickly became popular among the Devil May Cry 5 community. For example on October 1st, 2020, YouTube[3] user DragonWagonz XL reposted an edit using the clip (originally from Twitter @skurletonVA, since deleted). The video received more than 377,000 views in two years (shown below, left). On May 31st, 2021, YouTube[4] user Alexey Kholmik uploaded an edit that received more than 1.3 million views in one year (shown below, right).

On June 11th, 2022, YouTube[5] user No-Life King uploaded an edit showing a plastic chair amidst an approaching storm. The video received more than 8.6 million views in four months (shown below, left). On June 13th, 2022, YouTube[6] user RangBoy-Kun uploaded similar edit that received more than 1.2 million views in four months (shown below, right).
