About
Unhated Nations is an exploitable two-panel webcomic strip inspired a Polandball comic. The first panel depicts a sandwich board sign indicating an annual meeting of "Unhated" countries. The second panel is a wide view on a board room containing a large round table surrounded by many office chairs, and only a single country ball -- Canada. In edits, the "unhated" object is edited, as is who is seated at the table.
Origin
On July 15th, 2014, in celebration of Canada Day, Reddit user /u/disneyvillain posted the original comic to /r/polandball[1], accruing more than 14,000 points in eight years (shown below).
Spread
It took some time for the comic to become a commonly used exploitable template. Once recognizable, it became a template for acknowledging commonly accepted members of a specific category. Common edits to the template include changing the sandwich board to describe a different group of things. For example, on November 1st, 2022, Redditor AmayaILoveYou posted an edit showing well-liked people on the internet, gaining over 7,700 points in /r/wholesomememes[2] in one week (shown below).
Another common edit is to leave the second panel empty of anything, suggesting that all members of the stated group are universally maligned. For example, on November 30th, 2021, Redditor RayDittDITTRay posted an example making fun of EA, gaining over 8,500 points on one year (shown below).
