About
Undertale Sans and Underfell Sans Begging for Tootsie Rolls or Fuck, Please, We've Been Good is a piece of Undertale fan art depicting Sans with a blue tongue and Fell Sans from the AU fan game Underfell with a red tongue on leashes begging, Fell saying, "Fuck, please, we've been good," and Sans saying, "C'mon, kid…." The artwork first became the subject of memes as early as February 2016 and continued to inspire memes over the following years in which a pair of hands offering something to the two Sans is added to the image, with the most notable variant featuring a handful of Tootsie Rolls candy.
Origin
It is unclear who created the artwork of the Sans' begging on leashes. The earliest available post of the image was posted by Tumblr[1] user metalbatteryzone on February 9th, 2016, and is an already-altered meme in which Doomguy's hands from Doom loading a shotgun are added in front of the characters, garnering over 2,000 notes in eight years (shown below, left). However, the art seems to predate this, as versions without the hands in the foreground exist and have been posted since (shown below, right).
Potentially, the original artwork was posted by now-deleted Tumblr user f-u-b-u, however, this is unconfirmed.
Spread
On February 16th, 2016, Tumblr[2] user spaloonbabooguuscooties posted a piece of artwork referencing the artwork in which the Sans' have been allowed to eat Tootsie rolls, garnering over 2,100 notes in eight years (shown below, right). Seemingly, the Tootsie Roll edit of the meme, in which Tootsie Rolls are offered to the Sans' (shown below, left), predates this, although it is unclear who first posted it, with no known public archives of it prior to this post.
The artwork mentions a Tumblr user by the name of f-u-b-u, who could be the original artist of the Tootsie Roll post or the artwork in general, but this is unconfirmed.
On April 30th, 2016, the original image with an additional caption reading, "Everyday We Stray Further From God's Light" was archived on Know Your Meme.[3]
The meme became the further subject of referential memes and photoshops over the following years. On June 11th, 2019, X[4] user @flantastic_7 posted a screenshot from the The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening remake that features two skeletons, captioning it with the text from the meme, garnering over 2,500 likes in five years (shown below).
On June 6th, 2020, a meme referencing the artwork was posted to the subreddit /r/Dogelore [5] that gained over 1,000 upvotes in four years (shown below, left). On June 15th, 2023, X[6] user @Sugondese posted the Tootsie Roll meme in response to a post reading, "What if Sans' brother in Deltarune is revealed just be a red Sans," garnering over 30,000 likes in a year (shown below, right).
On June 17th, 2024, X[7] user @Ursen_ posted a photoshop of the original artwork featuring a hand holding a copy of a Tomodachi Life game on the Nintendo Switch, expressing a desire for Nintendo to announce a new Tomodachi Life game during its June 18th Nintendo Direct stream, garnering over 17,000 likes in a day (shown below).
