Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (Japanese: ゾン100 ～ゾンビになるまでにしたい100のこと～) is a Japanese manga/anime series written by Haro Aso and illustrated by Kotaro Takata. The manga started on October 2019 and an anime adaptation premiered on July 2023. The series has been the subject of ironic memes and image macro regarding its take on work exploration and other social themes that are commented on in the story.

Plot

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead^[1] follows the young adult Akira Tendou, a mentally and emotionally worn down employee that wishes for a reason to quit his job until a zombie apocalypse starts all over the globe.

History

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead started in Shogakukan's^[2] seinen manga magazine Monthly Sunday Gene-X on October 19th, 2018. On June 7th, 2022, Netflix^[3] announced a live-action film adaptation to premiere on August 3rd, 2023. A teaser was revealed on July 1st, 2023, on the streaming company's official YouTube^[4] channel. The teaser (shown below) garnered over 1.8 million views and 68,000 likes in a month.

2023 Anime Adaptation

On January 6th, 2023, an anime television series adaptation was announced to start its broadcast on July 9th, 2023. The first trailer was released on the same day the anime was announced by Viz Media, via its YouTube^[5] channel. The video (shown below) garnered over 913,000 views and 33,000 likes in eight months.

Reception

The manga was nominated for the 2022 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.^[6]

Online Presence

Online, quotes and clips from the series have been used in image macro memes on social media. For instance, on July 29th, 2023, Twitter^[7] user @natsukki_s compared the scenes from anime and Netflix movie adaption (shown below), which garnered roughly 10,000 views and 110 likes in five days.
