About
Vore is an Internet slang term for vorarephilia,[1] a paraphilia characterized by the erotic desire to consume or be consumed by another person or creature or to spectate another person or creature be eaten. The character being eaten is commonly referred to as the "prey" while the character doing the eating is often referred to as the "pred." Traditionally vore is depicted as an oral act, however variations involving other orifices exist.
History
Throughout history, stories have featured characters being eaten alive, including the biblical story of Jonah who was swallowed by a whale and the Greek myth of Cronos who devoured his children.[2] The earliest known vore-themed website Vor-Com[3] was launched in 1997, which featured furry-oriented vore illustrations. The website is now defunct.
Major Categories
Soft-Vore and Hard-Vore
In soft-vore, the prey is consumed alive and may be released, held for a time or digested. Soft-vore does not contain graphic depictions of death or digestion. Hard-vore is characterized by physical injury through violent chewing or digestion of prey.
Same-Size
In same-size vore, the predator and prey are are roughly equivalent in body size. Artwork depicting same-size vore often shows the predator's gut being stretched to unnatural extremes, similar to body inflation artwork.
Macro
Macro vore combines macrophilia and vore by featuring a predator much larger than the prey, often large enough for the prey to be bite sized. A very common type of vore art, especially among artists who do not wish to do artwork displaying the predator's midsection becoming very distended.
Other
"Cock" vore involves the prey being eaten by the pred's penis. While the predator in these situations is typically male, occasionally some artists will depict this method of vore using futanari characters (girls with male genitals). Anal vore, also known as "reverse vore," features preds devouring the prey with their anus. Vaginal vore, or "unbirth," involves the prey being taken into the predator by way of the predator's own birth canal, often ending up in the womb, hence the name "unbirth."
