About
The Storyteller is a Fallout lore web series created by ShoddyCast. The web series stars "The Storyteller", a Brotherhood of Steel member that dons a unique set of power armor and is voiced by Jason Damron. Over the years, the series and character had inspired hundreds of different mods, fan art, and different varying types of content set within the Fallout universe.
History
The first Storyteller episode was uploaded to YouTube on November 15th, 2013 by the official Shoddycast[1] YouTube Channel. The video, which simply featured a narrated voice going over various different in-game picture slides as well as stock footage, earned over 5.4 million views in 10 years (shown below, left). It wasn't until the end of the first season, which was uploaded to YouTube on August 8th, 2014, that the Storyteller finally revealed himself in person (shown below, right).
The following season, which was first uploaded to YouTube on October 3rd, 2014, added his loyal robotic companion: Eyebot Documentary Narrative Assistant (ED-NA), who records his journeys and stories throughout the wasteland. By then, the series had gone from mere slideshows to full scenes with character models from New Vegas.
Spinoffs
The Storyteller has also appeared in another ShoddyCast web series called "Psycho", which was made by Asynchrony.[3] The series involves The Storyteller and a mysterious masked man named Raul embarking on a Monty Python-esque quest.
Outside of the ShoddyCast series, The Storyteller has appeared in other Fallout web series such as TKS-Mantis'[4] "The Wild Wasteland" (shown below).
Fallout Mods
The Storyteller has appeared in various Fallout mods, including his own radio station in Fallout 4 (shown below, left),[2] as well as adding him as a companion follower in Fallout: New Vegas (shown below, right).
The Storyteller is also used in the Fallout 4 mod "The Wasteland Codex,"[5] which is an audio encyclopedia for the various creatures you encounter in the wasteland.
Death
On September 10th, 2024, the X[6] user @TheRealKank made a post on the site claiming to be Emily Damron, the daughter of Jason Damron, and saying that he passed away as a result of stage four adrenal cancer that had spread to his liver. The post, which sparked a lot of people posting about their desire to see The Storyteller officially incorporated into the mainline games in some way, earned over 360,000 views in three weeks (shown below).
