The Finals is an upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter video game in which players are participants of a televised battle royale show competing for a cash prize. The game was announced in August 2022 and entered closed beta in February 2023, with an open beta taking place in October that year.

Origin

On August 23rd, 2023, Stokholm-based video game developer Embark Studio announced The Finals, a free-to-play multiplayer first-person shooter themed around a televised battle royale show, for PC,^[1] later confirming release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

On September 27th, 2022, the pre-alpha gameplay trailer for the game premiered on YouTube,^[2] gaining over 271,000 views in one year.

In March and June 2023, the game entered periods of closed beta, with an open beta taking place launching in late October 2023.

On June 12th, 2023, a closed beta trailer for the game premiered on YouTube,^[3] gaining over 548,000 views in eight months (shown below, left). On October 25th, 2023, a trailer for the open beta premiered, garnering over 157,000 views in one day (shown below, right).

Gameplay and Features

The Finals is a multiplayer first-person shooter battle royale game. In the base mode, "Cashout," teams of three players are competing over vaults which they have to transport to specific locations and "cash them out." The game features destructible environments and vertical movement. The players are offered a choice between "Light," "Medium," and "Heavy" characters, which have access to unique weapons and features (gameplay video shown below).
