Two-Sentence Horror refers to the subreddit /r/TwoSentenceHorror that was created in early 2014. The forum is dedicated to "two-sentence horror stories" that try to evoke fear in a limited, short-form format. In general, the subreddit is associated with creepypasta discourse. Screenshots from the subreddit have migrated to other platforms like Twitter over the course of its seven-year history.
History
Two-sentence horror stories existed in literature before the official subreddit was created. In fact, there had been a precursor website called TwoSentenceStories.com[6] that was created in 2009. This website hosted two-sentence stories of all literary genres, however, most of them were horror-related.
On March 5th, 2014, the /r/TwoSentenceHorror[1] subreddit was created. However, the first post[2] to the subreddit was uploaded on March 10th, 2014, by Redditor selfabortion. The post (shown below) received 11 upvotes after being posted.
Spread
/r/TwoSentenceHorror slowly grew its member base from 2014-2018, having its first major increase in overall members between 2017 and 2018. This is evident via two snapshots from The Wayback Machine: one from August 20th, 2017,[3] and one from March 29th, 2018.[4] Over the course of that year, the subreddit grew from roughly 9,900 members to 21,500 members. As of December 2021, the subreddit has roughly 792,000 members.
The most upvoted post[5] ever uploaded to the subreddit was posted on December 15th, 2019, by Redditor DayerethDdraigson (shown below). It received roughly 40,000 upvotes over the course of six months.
On July 4th, 2015, YouTube [7] channel ScareTheater uploaded a video titled, "Top 13 Two Sentence Horror Stories," effectively being the first video on the platform highlighting the genre. The video (shown below) received roughly 201,500 views and 5,200 likes over the course of six years.
Bad Two-Sentence Horror Stories
On December 17th, 2021, a Twitter[8] page called Bad Two Sentence Horror (@bad2sentence) started posting on the platform. The page is dedicated to tweeting screenshots from r/TwoSentenceHorror that are more cringy than scary. The sentences that are reposted on the Twitter account are low-effort, making a poor attempt at horror. As of late December 2021, the Twitter account has roughly 104,500 followers.
The first tweet[9] from the account was posted on December 17th, 2021 (shown below). It received roughly 3,800 likes over the course of four days.
