"Are You Challenging Me?" is a memorable quote said by the character Shaggy Rogers in 2002 film Scooby-Doo. A still image from the scene paired with the quote gained significant popularity online in early 2019 with the resurgence of Ultra Instinct Shaggy and Shaggy's Power memes and has since remained in use as a macro and an exploitable.
Origin
On June 14th, 2002, adventure comedy film Scooby-Doo premiered in the United States.[1] In one scene of the film, character Shaggy Rogers, portrayed by Matthew Lillard, asks Scooby-Doo if he is challenging him.

The scene did not see any presence in memes until the Ultra Instinct Shaggy and Shaggy's Power memes gained prominence in January 2019. On January 26th, Redditor OakyTheAcorn posted the first known meme based on the scene to /r/dankmemes subreddit, gaining 86 upvotes in five months (shown below, left).[2] A January 27th repost to /r/PewdiepieSubmissions gained over 1,600 upvotes in the same period.[3]
Starting on January 27th, more notable versions of the meme were posted to Reddit,[4] Twitter[5] and Facebook,[6] with memes both referencing Shaggy's Power trope and used independently as a reaction (examples shown below).
In the following months, the format saw a moderate spread online. In June 2019, the format saw a brief resurgence following a popular post to /r/memes subreddit (shown below).[7]
