The Sephora Shart Incident, also known as ShartGate, took place in late December 2024 and became a topic of conversation on TikTok in early January 2025. TikToker @gwengarth posted a video about how she accidentally "sharted" in a Sephora beauty store and continued shopping, leading to widespread reactions of disgust and shock on TikTok from other users as it went viral online.

On December 31st, 2024, TikToker[1] @gwengarth posted a video about her and her friend going shopping in Sephora, a chain of beauty stores. At one point @gwengarth admits to having "sharted," but continues shopping regardless. At the end of the video, Gwen shows a censored photo of the alleged "shart."
The TikTok video gathered over 2.1 million views and 300,000 likes in a week.

On December 29th, 2024, Gwen posted a Get Ready With Me video[2] in which she addresses her "sharting controversy," gathering over 4.3 million views and 160,000 likes in two days.

Several TikTokers reacted to @gwengarth's video as it spread in late December 2024 and early January 2025, with TikToker[5] @peachaura expressing further disgust at learning that Gwen apparently tried to clean her Hello Kitty pants in a public restroom on December 29th, 2024. The video gathered over 1 million views and 100,000 likes in three days.

On December 31st, 2024, TikToker[6] @sombretempete posted a video skit acting as a NYC restaurant doorman encountering the Sephora Shart Girl, gathering over 800,000 plays and 115,000 likes in three days.

Other internet users reacted to the viral video as well, with X[3] user @pk_kenzie writing, "Just letting u guys on here know that the first tiktok drama of 2025 is a girl vlogged herself sharting in the middle of Sephora, continued shopping, and then showed us the shart stain." The tweet was posted on January 1st, 2025, and gathered over 9,000 likes in a day.
On January 1st, 2025, TikToker[4] @berightbeth posted a video about the "Sephora Shart Incident," saying that the incident makes sense after learning that @gwengarth is an account run by a "mean gay" and a white "hot cheeto girl." The video gathered over 700,000 plays and 100,000 likes in a day.
