About
Rivelino the Artist, also known by his Twitter handle @alpharevelino, is a Twitter user and artist most known for his threads related to pick-up artist discourse and masculine body language. His online influence most notably started from his Don't Lean In series of tweets, something he began talking about on Twitter as early as 2018, but recently gained more mainstream attention for it starting in May 2020. His edits of men's photographs with green lines inserted into them have received more attention in August 2021, where at this point in his online history, many debate whether he is a parody account or completely serious.
Online History
Rivelino has been using Twitter since August 9th, 2010.[1] His earliest tweets are primarily hyperlinked articles about masculinity, alpha-maleness and pick-up artist discourses. He also started a YouTube[2] page alongside his Twitter account in 2010, posting his first video on November 26th, 2010 (shown below). His YouTube page consists mostly of alpha male examples and inspirations, like Bill Burr's comedy routines and ideal masculine behavior portrayed in popular TV and movies.
Ask Rivelino
Rivelino also replies to questions submitted to him by his followers. He started this trend with a tweet[13] posted on October 19th, 2020. These tweets he categorizes under the title, "ASK REVELINO" (examples shown below).
Women Who Wear Vans
Rivelino is also a known hater of Vans shoes, specifically of women who wear them. In a tweet[14] posted on July 28th, 2020, (shown below, left), Revilino expressed just this. He expresses this sentiment many times on his page (shown below, right).
Green Line Rule / Don't Lean In
Rivelino began talking about Don't Lean In as early as September 2018. On September 15th, 2018, Rivelino posted this tweet[3] (shown below) in which he first mentions the concept of "leaning in." In the tweet, he hyperlinked a WordPress article written by notable pick-up artist blogger, Roissy. Even though the hyperlink is no longer active, Roissy is regarded as an influential voice in the PUA (pick-up artist) community, most notably in 2011,[4] and seems to be the source of the "Don't Lean In" ideology. Rivelino's ideology seems to be heavily influenced by Roissy's and the PUA community in general.
Roissy tweeted about the concept of "Don't Lean In" going into 2019 and 2020, originally not using the iconic green lines to visually convey the concept, like in this tweet[5] (shown below, left) posted on July 29th, 2019, featuring a photo of Grimes and Elon Musk at the 2019 Met Gala. Rivelino received the most amount of attention for the "Don't Lean In" concept on May 2nd, 2020, when he tweeted[6] a photo of Icelandic strongman Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson posing with a woman and using green lines to demonstrate his beta body language. The tweet (shown below, right) received roughly 4,500 likes and 7,000 retweets over the course of one month. This tweet started a thread that Rivelino added to multiple times in which he added more photos of famous men with green lines drawn over them.
Rivelino continued this theme on his page going into September 2021. He began to include speech bubbles and thought bubbles over the images too, the first photo including one being tweeted [7] on August 28th, 2020 (shown below, left). It is a picture of Bo Burnham leaning in. Rivelino also tweeted[8] green lines over photos of Chris Chan in August 2021 (shown below, right).
Cock Confidence vs. Cock Shame
On July 26th, 2021, Rivelino started a thread of Cock Confidence vs. Cock Shame, with a tweet[10] (shown below) that included pictures of Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio, one covering his genitals with his hands and the not doing that. Rivelino argues that this open stance exhibited by Cruise emits "cock confidence" as opposed to DiCaprio's "cock shame." Rivelino went on to include other male celebrity comparisons in subsequent replies to this original. He also tweeted[11] a photo of the cast of Seinfeld (shown below, right) adding the phrase "pussy modesty" to the conversation.
Another tweet from Rivelino regarding "pussy modesty" and "cock confidence" was posted by him on August 23rd, 2021. The tweet [12] (shown below) added new geometry to his meta. On August 30th, 2021, Rep. Paul Gosar, a House Representative from Arizona, tweeted a photo of himself with green lines. The tweet [9] (shown below, right) received roughly 8,000 likes over the course of one week and brought more attention to Rivelino's page.
The Five Stages of Understanding Rivelino
Many users on Twitter have held a long-standing viewpoint and had strong opinions on Rivelino. Most conversations about him online through subsequent replies and quote tweets of his tweets revolve around him being either an incel, a genius or a parody account. People cannot decide on a conclusion. Rivelino has begun to lean into this confusion, creating the "The Five Stages" of understanding him. In a tweet posted on September 1st, 2021, Rivelino began a new thread of screenshots of replies and quote tweets pairing the screenshots with a five-stage rating system. In the first tweet[15] posted on the 1st (shown below), Rivelino puts Twitter user Squish at Stage Two of understanding Rivelino. This newest trend in Rivelino's tweets alludes to his self-awareness of the meta surrounding his content.
