About

MemePAC is a super PAC made up of teenagers, run primarily through their TikTok, page[1] with the purpose of swaying the youth vote against Donald Trump through the use of memes. The homepage of their website[2] reads, "We are a youth-led Super PAC producing content to unseat President Donald J. Trump for the 2020 general election." MemePAC is primarily responsible for multiple interactive online projects and memes meant to demean Donald Trump, which can be found on their homepage. The group gained significant media attention in the latter half of October 2020. By the end of October, their TikTok page boasted over 1.6 million likes and 311,000 followers.

History

MemePAC was started in August of 2020 by recent high school graduate Jackie Ni. According to an interview with Ni published on October 28th, 2020 by Business Insider,[3] he started the group after seeing the impact of The Lincoln Project,, another democratic super PAC that's gained a substantial following.[4] Ni is not only the founder of the group, but also the lead coder for their online applications.

On August 4th, 2020, MemePAC posted its first video to TikTok. The video is a demonstration of one of MemePAC's anti-Trump projects, an app that turns Trump tweets into abstract art[5] (shown below, left). The video gained over 55,000 views in just under 3 months. Their next video, posted on August 9th, demonstrates another app available on the site, this one a hidden-item game where you have to spot Trump in various photographs[6] (shown below, right).

MemePAC also has a Twitter,[7] Instagram,[8] and YouTube[9] page, but TikTok is the most popular by a significant margin.

Highlights

MemePAC continued to post videos on TikTok advertising their latest anti-Trump applications, as well as the occasional video edit (example shown below, left). Their most popular upload came on October 23rd, 2020, with over 3.8 million views and 1.1 million likes as of October 30th (shown below, right). The video details an app on their website which shows a video of an orange Among Us character in a Donald Trump wig getting ejected into space for every new follower the MemePAC TikTok page receives.[10]
