Musically Oblivious 8th Grader (also abbreviated as "MO8G") featuring a photo of a young girl with captions that are blatantly misinformed about a well-known artist, band or a song. The top caption introduces the name of the band, artist or song and the bottom caption implies one's complete lack of knowledge about music in similar vein to Idiot Nerd Girl or Technologically Impaired Duck.

Origin

Musically Oblivious 8th Grader was created by Grace Spelman^[1], who posted it to her since-deleted Tumblr in 2009. Spelman used a photo of her friend and fellow Tumblr user^[15] Emilie Ferreira^[9] from her eighth grade graduation. Spelman initially shared the photos on Tumblr to exchange jokes about music theory with her group of friends. After the template was uploaded to Memegenerator^[2], more captions about popular bands or performers started appearing. The first instance uploaded on the site commented on the Icelandic singer Björk^[10], confusing her with the Swedish Chef^[11] from The Muppet Show.

The single topic blog Musically Oblivious Eighth Grader^[8] was launched by Spelman on December 13, 2009. The image macro was used on 4chan^[4] as early as December 26th, 2009. In February 2010, MO8G was shared on FunnyJunk for the first time,^[12] appeared on Memebase^[6] in November 2010, followed by Reddit^[17] the next month and Buzzfeed^[14] in January 2011.
As of April 2012, 400 additional image macros have been shared on FunnyJunk.^[7] Additionally, the Quickmeme^[5]page has more than 13,000 submissions and Reddit^[16] has 760 threads featuring MO8G images. A Facebook^[13] fan page for the series has approximately 1300 likes and images continue to be posted on Tumblr^[3]with the tag “musically oblivious 8th grader.”
