McDonald's Alignment Chart is an Alignment Chart in which users humorously categorizes fictional characters by their potential reaction to children asking for McDonald's fast food.
Origin
On December 31st, 2017, Tumblr user shattred-earth created an alignment chart featuring characters from the video game Overwatch. Within the post, they also gave a blank template for others to create similar memes.[1] The post gained over 5,500 notes.
The options on the chart are loosely based on a routine by comedian John Mulaney featured in the 2015 comedy special John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid (shown below).
Spread
On January 2nd, a post was made on the Meme Economy subreddit by Reddit user ghdawg6197 asking whether the meme was worth investing in.[2] Later that day, a post using the meme was made to the /r/SailorMoon subreddit, where it recieved over 90 upvotes.[3] Also on the same day, Tumblr user zelda64l created a variant featuring characters from Homestuck, which gained nearly 750 notes.[4]
Other popular edits of the chart include an edit posted by triforce-princess which featured Breath of the Wild characters, gaining over 470 notes (shown below, left), and a post by user is-sinnoh-confirmed-yet which used characters from the fourth generation of the Pokémon video game series, which gained over 1,600 notes (shown below, right).
