On September 9th, 2023 Sidemen FC and The YouTube All-Stars played a charity soccer match at West Ham’s London Stadium benefitting various initiatives in Great Britain.^[1] In the 78th minute, referee Mark Clattenburg gave a yellow card to Max Fosh of the YouTube All-Stars. In response, Fosh pulled a green Uno Reverse Card on Clattenburg, eliciting a laugh from the referee. The moment was posted to Twitter that day by @Pubity, gaining over 29,000 retweets and 196,000 likes in two days (shown below).

Spread

The moment spread widely on social media, and reposts by Jomboy,^[2] CentreGoals,^[3] and @NoContextHumans^[4] saw significant retweets and likes. On September 9th, 2023, Twitter user @EuroExpert_^[5] opined that the image of Fosh with the reverse card was the "birth of an eternal meme," gaining over 10,000 retweets and 118,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). The same day, Fosh himself reposted the image,^[6] gaining over 4,500 retweets and 106,000 likes in the same time frame (shown below, right).

While several people enjoyed the stunt, it did receive some negative feedback. Some felt the Uno Reverse Card meme was overdone and not funny (an example by @jjosh_exe^[7] shown below).
