Markiplier Standing In Front Of A Blue Screen is an exploitable meme template featuring YouTuber Markiplier and is taken from an Unus Annus video. The meme uses the blue screen (or sometimes green screen) in the background to overlay Markiplier over various images.

Origin

The original video was first uploaded to YouTube on May 28th, 2020, to the Unus Annus channel. The video, titled Only ANNUS-es May Watch This Video,^[1] (shown below) features Markiplier telling viewers they made the right choice before he stands in front of the blue screen describing UNUS-es and how to handle them. The key moment in the video involves Markiplier gesturing towards the top of a screen and saying it causes him pain, then he gestures towards the bottom of the screen saying he doesn't like that either. The video received over 1.5 million views before the Unus Annus channel was deleted on November 13th, 2020.^[2]

Spread

Memes featuring the template began appearing shortly after the Unus Annus upload. For example, on September 13th, 2020, YouTuber Paul Merrick posted an edit that featured Markiplier gesturing towards Rule 34, gaining over 50,000 views in nearly two years (shown below, left). On April 19th, 2021, YouTuber whobrokemytv posted an example showing Markiplier judging various Fortnite maps and weapons, gaining over 40,000 views in over a year.
