Maitake Guru Guru, also known as Maitake Dance, refers to a video of Hololive virtual YouTuber Juufuutei Raden singing "Maitake Guru Guru" repeatedly. The video became popular with edits of people losing their sanity after hearing the song. It also inspired animation redraws.

Origin

On August 6th, 2024, Hololive virtual YouTuber Juufuutei Raden posted a Short to her official YouTube^[1] channel of herself (drawn by ばかくん三世) dancing and repeatedly saying "Maitake guru guru". The video received over 8.8 million views in two months.

Spread

Starting in August of 2024, the video grew popular with edits of losing their sanity after watching it, and the clip became considered as "earworm" and brain rot content. For example on August 10th, 2024, TikTok^[2] user @altercreamy uploaded an edit of Raden in the asylum while singing. The post received more than 2.4 million views in two months (shown below).

On September 7th, 2024, the Facebook^[3] page "Anime for Everyone" uploaded an edit comparing Raden's song and the Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan opening song "Shikairo Days" for "The battle of the brainrot." The post received over 34,000 reactions and 6,000 shares in one month (shown below).

On September 29th, 2024, Twitter / X^[4] user @DestinedForArt uploaded fan art of Kadenokouji Yukari from Blue Archive using Raden's video as a reference. The post received over 1,700 reposts and 16,000 likes in one week (shown below).
