About
Lose The Shorts! refers to a well-known and parodied piece of sexual fan art of a muscular rendition of the musician K.K. Slider from Animal Crossing asking for requests. A person in the audience replies, "Lose the shorts!"
Origin
In the Animal Crossing games, K.K. Slider is a dog who plays music in a fictional singing language, dubbed "Animalese." He will play songs the player requests for him, so long as they are on his list of songs that are actually in the game.
On July 22nd, 2011, DeviantArt user exciterex[3] published a piece of fan art that portrays an overly-muscular and well-endowed K.K. asking for requests, and the player, dubbed "Villager" in Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart, is asking for K.K. to remove his shorts (shown below).
Spread
The comic and variants have been shared on Twitter, Reddit, and other similar sites for its humorous drawing style and comical and overly sexual nature. On March 26th, 2020, Reddit user u/sfsctc made a custom Animal Crossing: New Horizons pattern variant and posted it to the /r/AnimalCrossing[1] subreddit, where it received over 400 points (shown below).
On January 9th, 2020, Twitter user @peachring_[2] posted a picture of a cosplayer (whose name and handle are currently unknown) dressed up as the meme for a convention, receiving over 9,500 likes (shown below).
