I'm Sucking the Life Energy Out of My Dog refers to an edited photograph of a dog in which a person's hand sucks out a stream of red particles representing life energy out of it. Posted in late May 2024, the image went viral on social media and became an exploitable meme format, inspiring fan art and remakes over the following months.
Origin
On May 30th, 2024, X[1] / Twitter user @_Virus_Kid_ posted an edited photograph of his dog in which a beam of red particles was coming out of the dog and into a person's hand, commenting, "Bored so I'm sucking the life energy out of my dog." The post (shown below) received over 8,700 reposts and 48,000 likes in two weeks.
Spread
On June 8th, 2024, X[2] user @lucavi_ftw posted a screenshot of @_Virus_Kid_ 's post. The screenshot gained an additional 5,000 reposts and 61,000 likes on X in two days.
Starting in late May 2024, @_Virus_Kid_'s post inspired further edits and redraws. For example, on May 30th, X[3] user @yutrobog posted an edit that garnered over 270 reposts and 1,000 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). On June 2nd, X[4] user @foffrz posted a Guilty Gear edit that received over 250 reposts and 1,200 likes in eight days (shown below, right).
On June 9th, 2024, X[5] user @_tidunas posted a drawn remake of the photograph that received over 13,000 reposts and 212,000 likes in one day (shown below).
More redraws of the original post were shared on X / Twitter in the following days.
