About
I Was the Body Model For X is a phrasal template and catchphrase used in a series of posts in which users spread misinformation that they served as a body model for a certain video game character. Spawned by a post in which a user claimed that they were body model for an Azur Lane design, the trend achieved prominence in December 2024 when users falsely claimed to be body models for various Marvel Rivals characters.
Origin
On September 14th, 2023, the gacha video game Azur Lane presented a suggestive skin for its character Kashino.[1] On September 16th, X[2] user @DeputyARUUU quoted the post, spreading misinformation that they were the body model for the design. The post (shown below) received over 270 reposts and 6,700 likes in one year.
The format did not achieve popularity until early December 2024, when on December 2nd, X user @DeputyARUUU reused the joke and claimed[3] that they were the body model for the character Psylocke in the 2024 video game Marvel Rivals (shown below). The post garnered over 4.1 million views, 2,400 reposts and 59,000 likes in nine days.
Spread
On December 5th, 2024, X[4] user @Demon_President made a similar post in which they claimed that they were the body model for the character Dagger in Marvel Rivals. The post (shown below) received over 2,100 reposts and 62,000 likes in six days.
Following the viral spread of the initial posts, more users made similar posts in which they claimed to serve as body models for various characters in Marvel Rivals and other video games.
For example, on December 10th, 2024, X[5] user @BUNNYEXPLODER claimed to be a body model for the Marvel Rivals character Squirrel Girl, with their post gaining over 590 reposts and 34,000 likes in two days (shown below).
In multiple examples, people humorously shouted out video game publisher CAPCOM for the opportunity to serve as a model for a Marvel Rivals character despite CAPCOM not being a developer or publisher of the game.
