"I Love You 3000" is a memorable quote uttered by the character Tony Stark in the 2019 Marvel superhero film Avengers: Endgame. Online, people use the phrase as expressions of love and make jokes about emotionally resonant they found the line.
Origin
On April 26th, 2019, the film Avengers: Endgame was released in the United States.[1] In the film, the character Tony Stark and his daughter Morgan (portrayed by Robert Downey Jr and Alexandra Rachael Rabe, respectively) express their love for each other by saying, "I love you 3000."
Spread
Following the film's release, fans of the movie began posting their reactions to the line. For example, Twitter user @Ashril_92 tweeted,[2] "When Tony says 'I love you tons' she says 'I love you 3000' A ton is 2000 pounds. Saying I love you 3000 means she loves him more." The post received more than 14,000 retweets and 21,000 likes in 24 hours (shown below, left).
Others continued to post tributes to the film by posting the quote and photographs and reaction images sharing their emotional response to the line (examples below, center and right).
The line also inspired fanart based on images from the film. For example, DeviantArt [3] user candymeltzz posted an illustration of Tony and Morgan Stark hugging with the line as a caption (shown below).
On April 28th, the official Marvel Studios Twitter account tweeted a video tribute to the fans of the series. They wrote, "Thank you to all the fans around the world for being part of our universe. We love you 3000." The post received more than 65,000 retweets and 240,000 likes in two days (shown below).
