Haha Jonathan, You Are Banging My Daughter refers to an ironic image macro of the character Count Dracula from the 2012 film Hotel Transylvania. Originating from a viral I'm Stuff meme, the panel gained popularity in shitposting in May 2021.

Origin

On April 28th, 2019, Instagram^[1] user enlarged.cantelope posted an ironic four-panel meme that used images of the 2012 animated film Hotel Transylvania characters Jonathan Loughran, Mavis Dracula-Loughran and Count Dracula (shown below, left). The post gained over 1,500 likes in two years.

The meme is a version of the I'm Stuff meme format, which gained popularity in December 2018 as a way of parodying cringeworthy fan-written exchanges between film characters (original non-ironic I'm Stuff meme shown below, right). The panel featuring Mavis Dracula-Loughran is an edit of the "It's Okay… I Am a "Lesbo" format^[2] that had also been circulated at that time, similar to I'm Stuff in the way it was used.

Spread

In 2019 and 2020, the image was widely circulated online through multiple reposts. For example, an April 15th, 2020, repost by Instagram^[3] user myislandbeans gained over 8,800 likes in one year. An October 25th, 2020, repost by Instaram^[4] user chungles_chungles gained over 27,000 likes in one year.

On September 19th, 2020, YouTube^[5] user Edward Startdust posted a video version of the meme voiced with computer-generated speech. The video gained 1,100 views in eight months. On November 6th, 2020, an unknown Redditor^[6] uploaded a voiced version of the meme to /r/ComedyNecrophilia subreddit where it gained over 8,600 upvotes in six months (reupload^[7] shown below). The video received viral spread through reposts on Reddit, iFunny and other platforms.

On January 31st, 2021, Redditor^[8] NoOneCares384 posted an edit in which the second panel was replaced with an image of a fire hydrant, with the dialogue adjusted accordingly (shown below, left). The post gained over 12,100 upvotes in the /r/ComedyNecrophilia subreddit in four months.

On May 20th, 2021, three days after a trailer for the fourth Hotel Transylvania film premiered, Twitter^[9] user @enbyniko wrote, "since everyone is talking about hotel transylvania again let me bring back this pic," tweeting the image. The post gained over 10,400 retweets and 78,200 likes in four days (shown below, right).

Starting on the same day, users on Twitter and Reddit edited the panel of Count Dracula saying "Haha Jonathan you are banging my daughter" into unrelated fan-made macros. For example, on May 20th, Twitter^[10] user @WavePrism_ posted a meme that gained over 3,800 retweets and 29,300 likes in four days (shown below, left). On May 21st, Redditor^[11] I_cant_find_itgeoer posted a meme that received over 11,400 upvotes in three days (shown below, right).

In late May 2021, the "Haha Jonathan" panel saw notable use in memes, including ironic non-sequitur edits and remakes.
