Give Me the Plant is a memorable quote uttered by the character AUTO in the 2008 computer-animated science fiction Pixar film WALL-E. Online, a screen capture of AUTO saying the line has been used as the punchline to jokes about plant life.
Origin
On June 27th, 2008, WALL-E was released in theaters in the United States.[1] In the film, the main protagonists attempt to rescue a dying plant from an antagonistic robot named AUTO. During the film's climax, AUTO demands they hand over the plant by saying, "Give me the plant."
That year, on December 27th, YouTuber Gianna Cappuccia uploaded the clip to YouTube, receiving more than 800,000 views in less than 11 years (shown below).
Spread
On November 12th, 2018, Imgur [2] user darksamus8 posted a GIF about the video game Super Smash Brothers Ultimate using the scene. The post received more than 785 views in less than six monts (shown below).

Several months later, on February 6th, 2019, Redditor [3] A-long-sleeve posted a screen capture of AUTO saying the line in the /r/SmashBrosUltimate subreddit. The image is used as a reaction to the thread title, "When its been 3 weeks since I registered my game copy and still haven’t received the piranha plant code email yet." The post received more than 3,100 points (99% upvoted) and 80 comments in less than one months (shown below, left).
Four days later, February 10th, Redditor[4] ihavenomemes96 posted a fake text in which someone sends the image and the recipient responds, "Bro, quit sending me that. Just tell me how much weed you want." The post received more than 10,000 points (93% upvoted) and 70 comments (shown below, center). Later that day, Redditor[5] MK2Marc posted the image on the /r/me_irl subreddit, receiving more than 12,000 points (98% upvoted) and 70 comments.
About two weeks later, Redditor[6] Dogemaster21777 posted a variation of the meme with the caption "When you spawn in the desert in Minecraft but the starting chest only has one sapling and your homie takes it." The post received more than 5,600 points (97% upvoted) and 50 comments (shown below, right).
