About
Get Out Frog, also known as the "Something Awful Frog" or "Frogout," is an exploitable image of a stuffed frog's face that is often featured in animated GIFs and photoshopped images, particularly within the Something Awful forum community. As its name suggests, images of the frog may be used to single out an individual in a group discussion or to show him or her the door.
Origin
The Get Out Frog first gained prominence through its appearance in a photoshoot (NSFW) starring the adult film star Next Door Nikki (shown below), which was uploaded by YouTube kurat on November 1st, 2005. Within the next eight years, the video received over 659,000 views and 460 comments.
Something Awful user Chaos Ringer created a thread[6] (SA account required) on July 19th, 2009, which called for other members to help find the stuffed frog.
Spread
On August 18th, the Internet humor blog Bad News Central[1] published a post about the stuffed frog, noting the Something Awful community's interest in finding it. Many images and gifs were created and spread throughout threads on the SA forums. On February 17th, the single serving site Frogout[7] was launched, which featured a scrolling image of the frog saying "Get out" (shown below).
On February 19th, 2010, a "Photoshop Phriday" post was featured on Something Awful,[4] which included photoshopped images using the frog's likeness. A second Photoshop Phriday post was published the following week. Crossing over into YouTube and 4chan primarily through its GIFs, the frog has managed to spread to a larger community than its original Something Awful community. On February 26th, YouTuber Jesmaster uploaded a video featuring a montage of notable Frogout photoshops and animated GIFs (shown below).
In October of 2011, image macros featuring the frog with the Portuguese caption "me obrigue" began appearing on the microblogging site Tumblr.[13] The earliest known instance was posted by Tumblr user otome-sama on October 29th, which received over 85 notes within the next two years. The caption roughly translates to "Make me" in English.
