About

Fleece Johnson, also called Booty Warrior, refers to a viral video of an interview of an inmate describing raping men in prison.

Origin

On 18th of February of 2008, the prison documentary Lockup aired its 3rd episode of its 6th season, interviewing 5 inmates, among them an African-American man called Fleece Johnson, who is described by the narrator as practicing “a very different kind of homosexuality.“ During the interview, Johnson goes on to share with the filming crew about how he used to satisfy his sexual desires inside prison by first mentioning how it's inevitable that men inside prison would have intense sexual desires, and in the absence of women, one has to look for alternatives, and then he goes on to talk about how he fulfilled his sexual needs by raping other male inmates. He also shares the “pick-up line” he used on his victims. “I like you, and I want you now. We care. Do this the easy way or the hard way; the choice is yours." He also goes on to describe a man's butt, or “booty,” as he calls it, as being more important than food or water to him. He finishes the interview by stating that if he were back in his prime, even they (the filming crew) wouldn't be safe from him, and that in the end he's not ashamed of his actions and calls himself a “warrior.”

Spread

At some point in the late 2000s, a clip of the show was uploaded on YouTube. The original video has since been lost, but other later uploads still exist, with the one posted by the user Kamikaze Player currently sitting in 3,4 million views. The perceived “extremely passionate" way in which Fleece Johnson described his acts, especially his pick-up line and his love for "Booty,” was perceived as extremely humorous by netizens, leading to him being dubbed “The Booty Warrior.”

Cameo appearance in the Boondocks

On June 27, 2010, the Adult Swim animated series The Boondocks aired the 9th episode of its 3rd season titled “A Date With the Booty Warrior,” featuring a character clearly based on Johnson voiced by Carl Jones, producer of the show.

Release and life after prison

The exact date is unknown, but Fleece Johnson was finally released from prison at around 2015 or 2016. On June 17th, 2023, the YouTube channel Hustler's Spirit would upload an interview with Fleece Johnson, now in his 60s and married to a woman, where he goes on to talk about his life before and after his release. He also talks about how his online fame affected him and claims that the documentary and the Boondocks misinterpreted him and that his words in the original Lockup interview were exaggerated and he was just acting; many viewers thought he remained unconvinced of his claims, citing the extreme detail used in the original interview and that his claims seem to contradict each other. To this day, he continues to give interviews on the Hustler's Spirit channel, talking about various experiences and overall prison life.
