Overview
Drake Pedophilia and Grooming Allegations refers to a series of accusations and rumors levied against Canadian rapper Drake (real name Aubrey Graham) accusing him of being an alleged pedophile who engages in explicit acts with underage women. Rumors about Drake purportedly grooming minors surfaced in the late 2010s amid his friendship with Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown and more controversies and allegations about Drake texting teen girls like Billie Eilish. In 2024, Drake and rapper Kendrick Lamar became foes in a developing feud that played out over back-and-forth diss tracks, during which Lamar accused Drake of being a pedophile in two of his songs. In turn, Drake denied the allegations. The rap beef inspired numerous reactions and memes, many of which centered on the Drake pedophilia allegations levied by Lamar.
Background
Millie Bobby Brown Friendship
Rumors about Drake allegedly grooming minors predominantly started when Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown was interviewed at the 2018 Emmy Awards and said that she and Drake were friends. They purportedly met in Australia and often texted each other. The interview was posted to YouTube[1] on September 17th, 2018, when Brown was 14 years old (shown below).
Independent[2] writer Katie Goth published an article on September 19th, 2018, called "We need to talk about Drake texting 14-year-old Millie Bobby Brown" in which she levied concern over the two's friendship.
Billie Eilish Texts
On November 25th, 2019, Vanity Fair posted a video to YouTube[3] that was an interview with pop singer Billie Eilish who revealed that she and Drake texted often and that he's "the nicest dude I’ve ever spoken to. I mean, I’ve only, like, texted him, but he’s so nice. Like, he does not need to be nice, you know what I mean?" (shown below). Eilish was 17 at the time.
The video sparked comparisons to Drake's friendship with Millie Bobby Brown, leading to memes about Drake texting underage girls. For instance, on December 3rd, 2019, Redditor[4] JLHumor posted a meme to /r/MemeEconomy that joked about the controversy, replacing Drake in the Drakeposting format with LeVar Burton's Geordi La Forge from Star Trek, receiving over 57,000 upvotes in four years (shown below, left).
Around the same time, other memes were posted to Facebook and elsewhere online (shown below, right).
Developments
Kendrick Lamar's Accusations / Rap Beef
In 2024, a feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar played out over multiple diss tracks. In Lamar's diss "meet the grahams," uploaded to YouTube[5] on May 3rd, 2024, he alleged multiple times that people should keep their children and family away from Drake. The song also purported that Drake had a secret 11-year-old daughter. Over three days, the track gained over 16.5 million views (shown below).
Before Drake responded with a song, Lamar posted another diss track to YouTube[6] on May 4th, titled "Not Like Us," in which multiple lyrics purported that Drake was a pedophile, including, "Say, Drake, I hear you like 'em young," "Tryna strike a chord and it's probably A-Minor" and "Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophiles."[7] Over two days, the song amassed over 19.8 million views (shown below).
Drake's Instagram Story Response
In the hours after Kendrick Lamar's "meet the grahams" was posted, Drake posted an Instagram Story that read, "nahhhh hold on can someone find my hidden daughter pls and send her to me…these guys are in shambles" (shown below). The screenshot was tweeted by the X[8] account @nfr_podcast before 1 a.m. EST on May 4th, 2024, gaining over 29,000 likes in two days.
