Related Explainer: What's The 'Christmas Just A Week Away' Meme? The Copypasta And Original Video Of A Girl Ready For The Holiday Season Explained

About

Christmas Just A Week Away, also known as Can You Believe It Guys Christmas or the Christmas Just A Week Away Copypasta, refers to a Duet on TikTok that went viral in late 2020 in which a girl with AirPods in is excited about Christmas being only one week away despite it not even being close to December. The original video didn't start being exploited in abundance, however, until late 2021 on iFunny, where iFunniers replaced what it was the girl was excited about. Over the following years, it also evolved into a copypasta format.

Origin

On September 5th, 2020, TikToker[1] @kearamr posted a Duet with a timelapse video of someone's hands preparing Christmas cookies (shown below). She captioned the video, "Manifesting," as if the video could manifest Christmas coming next week rather than having to wait until December. The TikTok received roughly 817,900 plays and 182,800 likes over the course of one year.

Can you believe it guys? Christmas, just a week away! Christmas is in a week! Woo-hoo! I am so happy about this information. Christmas, just a week away. Oh, wow! Can you believe it? Christmas, just in a week! It got here so fast. Christmas, just a-

On November 11th, 2020, the video was posted to YouTube [2] by the channel Fatty. There, it received roughly 49,900 views and 3,700 likes over the course of one year.

The video didn't receive much more attention until November of the next year, where on November 8th, 2021, YouTuber[9] Pastello posted a video that used a Deltarune meme format which pulled the audio from the original TikTok. The video (shown below) received roughly 5,500 views and 327 likes over one month.

On November 17th, 2021, TikToker[3] @ribbidiot reuploaded a more pixelated version of the original (shown below). The TikTok gained over 1.8 million plays and 252,500 likes in one months' time.

In December 2021, iFunniers on the platform started exploiting the video and audio, adding in absurd and ironic things that are only a week away. The videos followed a phrasal template of, "X Is Next Friday!" The first iFunnier to upload one of these videos was @NobleSakura[4] on December 10th, 2021, where they replaced "Christmas" with a metal pipe and the audio in the video with the sound of a metal pipe hitting the floor (shown below). The video received roughly 4,100 smiles over the course of four days.

iFunnier[5] @RacistMonkey posted a new iteration later on December 10th, adding in the sound of a drill drilling instead (shown below). This video received 108 smiles over four days.

The meme started being remixed on YouTube in this fashion the next day. For instance, YouTuber[6] Memetastic posted a video (shown below) that conjoined the format with Ironic Breaking Bad Memes by adding two pictures of Walter White and replacing the audio with the show's opening theme. The video amassed roughly 20,500 views and 1,800 likes over three days.

The video continued to be exploited on YouTube[7] and iFunny[8] going into December 2021, with the videos becoming increasingly absurd.

On December 1st, 2021, a post to the /r/copypasta[10] subreddit by Redditor d_tto received over 330 upvotes and 50 comments in two years (shown below).
