About
Chris Redfield Punching a Boulder Is an iconic scene from Resident Evil 5 in which protagonist Chris Redfield has to beat his way through a giant rock in order to continue the boss fight. The moment has been joked about by the fandom as a point where the series jumped the shark and has been mocked in various pieces of fan art and eventually the series itself.
Origin
In the final level of Resident Evil 5, Chris and partner Sheva end up in a Volcano with the main antagonist, Albert Wesker. In order to proceed, Chris has to partake in a quick time event where he ends up punching a boulder in order to use it as a platform to move on and get to Sheva (shown below).
Spread
The moment became a popular point of reference among Resident Evil fans and is a common reference when making jokes about Chris Redfield. In January 2018, Scholarly Gamers[1] posted an article dedicated to the scene. It has also been a common reference for fan art for Resident Evil.
