About

Brock Lesnar Reading a Magazine refers to an exploitable image of WWE wrestler Brock Lesnar reading a magazine backstage at an episode of Monday Night Raw. After the episode of Raw aired, Twitter users photoshopped the image to change the magazine Lesnar was reading.

Origin

On the July 30th, 2018 example of Monday Night Raw, WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar appeared backstage. In the show's storyline, Lesnar rarely appears on television because he's disinterested in working with WWE despite being champion. In the July 30th episode, Lesnar finally appeared on the show yet for most of the episode was seen backstage reading magazines, "The Backwoodsman" and "American Frontiersman," with no intention of appearing before the live audience despite being contractually obligated to do so.

Spread

After the show, fans parodied the scene by changing the magazines Lesnar was reading. Many of the parodies utilized gag magazine covers from The Simpsons. For example, user @matthewgilpin[1] posted a cover of Lesnar reading a magazine called "Gigantic Asses," gaining over 300 retweets and 1,100 likes (shown below, left). User @MattMcMuscles of Super Best Friends Play posted an image of Lesnar reading "The Joy of Cooking Milhouse," gaining over 290 likes (shown below, right).

Popular non-Simpsons edits include a post by Sinzhq that shows Lesnar reading a hentai magazine which gained over 470 retweets and 1,200 likes. An image posted by @wresnocontext showing Lesnar apparently reading the Necronomicon gained over 150 retweets and 550 likes (shown below, right).
