The Boom Meter, also known as Boom or Doom or 5/5 Booms on the Boom Meter, refers to a rating system used by father and son TikTokers A.J. and Big Justice (aka the Costco Guys) to rate food products in their recurring segment "Boom or Doom." A "boom" visually involves shouting "boom," flexing a bicep and a clip-art explosion graphic with an explosion emoji. The Boom Meter went viral as a meme in 2024 when TikTok and Twitter / X users started to question the accuracy of the Boom Meter because the family (including many characters like The Rizzler) seemed to give everything "5/5 booms." Meme creators used the Boom Meter graphic as an exploitable thereafter.

Origin

The first A.J. and Big Justice TikTok^[1] in which they played "Boom or Doom" was posted on March 21st, 2023. They're shown rating Chick-fil-A sauces either a "BOOM 💣 Or DOOM ☠️," receiving over 27,000 plays and 1,100 likes in a year (shown below).

In 2023 and 2024, the TikTokers went increasingly viral for their Boom or Doom series across multiple TikToks^[2][3] that earned millions of plays. Their first TikTok^[4] to use the Boom Meter rather than just Boom or Doom was posted on June 9th, 2024, in which they rated restaurants along the Point Pleasant, New Jersey boardwalk, gaining over 326,100 plays and 26,100 likes in 11 days (shown below).

On June 10th, 2024, A.J. and Big Justice posted a TikTok^[5] in which they rated some triple-chunk chocolate cookies on the Boom Meter with the help of other collaborators like The Rizzler and Cousin Angelo. Over 10 days, the video received roughly 2.9 million plays and 294,800 likes (shown below).

Later on June 10th, 2024, X^[6] user @JUSTcatmeme reposted the video, captioning it, "Jesus died for this," gaining over 15.9 million views and 29,000 likes in 10 days (shown below). The tweet gained millions of views due to viral quotes ^[7][8] that mostly centered on The Rizzler's appearance.

On June 18th, 2024, A.J. and Big Justice posted another TikTok^[9] using the Boom Meter in which they rated Fruit Blox fruit snacks, receiving over 1.3 million plays and 72,000 likes in two days.

The video was similarly reposted to X by X^[10] user @JUSTcatmeme on June 18th, who captioned it, "I woke up to this," gaining over 6.6 million views and 4,700 likes in two days (shown below).

Jokes about the Boom Meter surfaced after the repost, like a quote shared by X^[11] user @chief___keefe on June 18th, 2024, who said, "As more and more items earn 5/5 booms on the boom meter, I begin to question the integrity of the boom meter," receiving over 75,000 likes in two days (shown below, left).

Also on June 18th, X^[12] user @DildoGaggins89 tweeted an image of Big Justice giving 9/11 5/5 booms, gaining roughly 17,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).
