A Latinx Making a Taco ❤️ Heartwarming refers to a viral X / Twitter post in which a user used the controversial term "latinx" to comment on a scene of the character Angelo Lopez from the animated film Turbo making a taco. Posted in November 2023, the post since inspired parodies and spawned the An X Making a Y ❤️ Heartwarming phrasal template.
Origin
On November 9th, 2023, X[1][2] user @GladFan5 posted a scene from the 2013 animated film Turbo in which character Angelo Lopez is making a taco, captioning the video, "a latinx making a taco ❤️ heartwarming" (shown below, left). The post received over 1,800 reposts and 6,500 likes prior to the account getting suspended.
The post later received a community note which claimed that the post used "a term that is offensive to Latinos" and that the video "showed a completely distorted form of Mexican tacos."
Spread
The post inspired viral reactions on X / Twitter. For example, on November 9th, 2024, X[3] user @PKontwt made a post that garnered over 390 reposts and 8,500 likes in four months (shown below, left). On November 11th, 2023, X[4] user @GrumpyCatterman made a comment that gained over 100 reposts and 490 likes in the same period (shown below, right).
In the following weeks, the phrase "a latinx making a taco ❤️ heartwarming" achieved spread, being used as a caption and a phrasal template. For example, on November 21st, 2023, X[5] user @ashpile985 posted a Jollyposting edit that garnered over 8,000 reposts and 49,000 likes in four months.
