I recognize the time and effort that you are dedicating to actively participate in the democratic process, and I appreciate that you and other concerned citizens have provided me the benefit of your comments on these matters As you may know, the TPP is a multilateral free trade agreement that is currently being negotiated by the United States and 11 other countries in the Asia-Pacific region- Australia, Brunei, Canada. Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico. New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam. Although no TPP agreement has been finalized, you may be certain thatI will keep your concerns in mind, and that I will continue to work with my colleagues to provide responsible oversight of TPP negotiations and U.S. trade policy The United States is negotiating several other trade agreements in addition to the TPP, including: the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with 28 Member countries of the European Union; a Trade in Services Agreement with 22 countries and the European Union: and an agreement between the 159 members of the World Trade Örganization. TPA would establish Congressional priorities and objectives during these negotiations, and give Congress the final say in consideration of implementing legislation. TPA also provides Congress strong and comprehensive disapproval authority. meaning if at any time an agreement makes inadequate progress toward congressional objectives, TPA can be disallowed I was pleased TPA passed the Senate on June 24, 2015, with bipartisan support. The legislation has been sent to the President to be signed into law. You may be certain that I will continue to work with my colleagues to provide responsible oversight of U.S. trade policy I am always appreciative when Texans take the time to reach out and share their concerns.
