Days after Hernandez had her little get-together with the GaymerX staff, Riendeau, and Petit, she published a piece on Kotaku promoting the Kickstarter project for Read Only Memories The project had only gained about $2,300 in the previous three days from roughly 73 new backers at the time this piece was publsihed. Within a day it had gained an additional $1,300 from 81 new backers and another $1,500 from 38 backers in the following day, when her piece was republished by Kotaku Australia. By the end of the week the project had 155 more new backers, contributing another $2,500. In those five days from the first piece in Kotaku to the end of the week, the Kickstarter project gained over 270 new backers contributing roughly $5,400. By the time the Kickstarter concluded, even with a last-minute push and last-minute coverage, it only got 2,300 over its funding goal. Seems reasonable to suggest that Hernandez's piece may have been a decisive factor in getting the projedt funded. X Journalists would make claims of people like Anita Sarkeesian "playing video games all her life" when she openly admitted many times she is not a gamer and only starter recently (when it wasn't for an interview). Various developers trading sex or money for good reviews got exposed, journalists who accepted got exposed. People became a bit more critical about supporting a game just because the developer has a victim complex stating tat their game could have only failed because of sexism, instead of their own poor developing skills. What really sealed the deal was opposition often faking their own harassment. Anita sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn have been caught multiple times screenshotting "harassment" while showing that the harrasser's account name in the login. Or when someone called the police to help Sarkeesian against a "very real threat" she was posting about, only for police to find the harasser's messages were coming from her IP address.
