Done in GIMP, frame-by-frame, with the lasso select tool. Tedious, you say? Hahahaha YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

It's optimized, so make sure you reconstruct the .gif prior to use (either by GIMP's unoptimize command, ImageMagick's -coalesce option, or some option the Adobe suite probably has).
