No code of ethics, no leader, no organization at all to what is even worse than armchair activism: It's a hashtag sired "movement that is utterly counterproductive because of the very nature of it's creation. If you openly associate with GamerGate, you aren't clearly defining what your point is because there is no centralized message or head figure that is ultimately dictating what the movement is about. That's why there are so many rancid, terrible people out there associated with the "movement":No one of any integrity has made it something worth value. It's still mostly associated with its most vocal, most destructive supporters If you have a problem with journalism and the gaming industry, all the more power to you. But don't associate with GamerGate. Doing so is essentially sticking a sign on you pointing towards every misogynistic, under-read blithering a------ out there that absolutely has no idea what they're talking about, and saying "I'm With Them Journalistic ethics, illegaVimmoral business practices, feminism: These are al incredibly important issues. Those who approach these subjects need to have an open mind and a serious amount of respect for the issues, as well as the wherewithal to properly discuss them. So far, they have been handled with as much grace and respect from people on both sides of the fence as a five year old with a chainsaw. I've largely stayed out of the debate, but if you want to ask my honest opinion on #GamerGate? Well, there you go. The thousands of dollars donated to charities, the uncovering of incontrovertible proof of mailing-lists and collusion between journalists, the people who actively STOPPED doxxing of anti-GGers by third-parties? Are all the people who have genuine reasons to side with GG supposed to accept being swept under the sweeping label of 'Triends with EVIL misogynists'? I'm not ignoring those people I'm saying, "Use a different f------ name, the one you have is toxic. Abandorn hope all ye who adopt it. S'pose the question is at this point: how would a 'different name' get started? And how could it stop people from just accusing it of being 'new gamergate' or what have you? Put together your own organization. Set up a site, a message, a mission. Don't just put a name and an idea out there, and then let anyone who wants to just latch on and represent you. Be clear in your purpose and be detailed If you cannot do these things, then just speak your own opinion as an individual. You don't need to be in some group. The more appropriate equation would be PETA An organization that's surface message is important and virtuous, but is founded on a damaging core principle that ultimately leads to them doing more harm than good So even though there are tons of people involved with PETA who don't support the radical core ideas of PETA, the PETA name is so toxic that it does more harm than good at this point and it's better to work for the overarching animal rights movement under a different banner." 29 notes

X Journalists would make claims of people like Anita Sarkeesian "playing video games all her life" when she openly admitted many times she is not a gamer and only starter recently (when it wasn't for an interview). Various developers trading sex or money for good reviews got exposed, journalists who accepted got exposed. People became a bit more critical about supporting a game just because the developer has a victim complex stating tat their game could have only failed because of sexism, instead of their own poor developing skills. What really sealed the deal was opposition often faking their own harassment. Anita sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn have been caught multiple times screenshotting "harassment" while showing that the harrasser's account name in the login. Or when someone called the police to help Sarkeesian against a "very real threat" she was posting about, only for police to find the harasser's messages were coming from her IP address.
