The world of Remnant is filled with many strange and terrifying things. The creatures of Grimm who roam the world bring death and destruction, remain a constant mystery. For every answer gained, more and more questions come to take its place.
And every once in a while, something arrives that defies all logic, all rationality, and everything we think we know.
The Gate. A Grimm of such horrific size and appearance that it would undoubtedly leave any human or faunus who saw it paralyzed with fear. Yet in spite of its immense stature, it has not once been seen by living eyes. While other elusive Grimm are often encountered enough to be the things of legends, rumors, or whispers in the night, the Gate has remained unseen by the eyes of man. This absence of contact and conflict with living humans, have resulted in a much lower cognitive thought process than other Grimm of large stature. The creature may even be less intelligent than that of young feral Grimm, meaning it may be more along the lines of a mindless automaton.
Which leads into another curious factor. Despite its immense size, weight, as well as lacking any physical means of locomotion, the Gate is somehow able to popup across Remnant. Seemingly appearing out of nowhere, and capable of vanishing just as quickly. The creature get its namesake from its ability to open its chest as if it where a giant door. What lies within is neither of flesh nor bone, rather a doorway. Much like the Gate the other end of this doorway could be anywhere in Remnant be it a forest in Vale, a desert in Vacou, a shore in Mistral, or the snowy tundra of Atlas.
Perhaps most terrifying of all, is that the Gate is under the complete beck and call of other more "higher" Grimm. A tool, which allows sapient and intelligent Grimm to transverse Remnant. To search, to destroy, to observe, to congregate, to prepare…
