The only difference is that its the "mainstream" online gaming press who decided to attack this time. When I say mainstream, Kotaku Polygon, Ars Technica or any of these sites who ran a version of "gamers are dead" articles. I consider these sites to be the big guns in regards to the mainstream online gaming press. I expect them to be held responsible for their actions, they as in the sites involved in these articles were fine with these articles being published and no, they don't get to hide behind labeling "opinion piece" to get away with blatant bigotry. These are the people who put labels on gamers, first we were entitled pieces of s--- when people were critical over mass effect. Now we're all misogynists, racists, transphobic, cis-gendered, white heterosexual oppressors from the patriarchy? F--- them, I hope the publications who ran and supported these coordinated attacks against gamers get ran the f--- off the internet As a kid in the 1980's, I got dragged through the mud for being a gamer, well before it was cool. I got made fun of for being a guy who played D&D, was told how D&D was Satanic. I was told by countless women all throughout my school years how I was a perennial loser, would never get laid, nor have a girlfriend for pulling out an EGM or a gaming related magazine while it was downtime in class. I was called out for playing magic the gathering in high school with friends during lunch The older people have taken the punches, we helped build nerd culture into what it is today and f--- people who want to call me a misogynist or a bigot. A lot of people have no idea what it was like to be a nerd when the culture was a sub-culture. I remember football players at my school calling gamers gay at one point in the 1980's I watched my hobby get blamed for Columbine and Sandy Hook. I watched my hobby get blamed every time some crazy nut job goes on a shooting spree. I am tired of hearing people telling adult gamers they have peter-pan syndrome or that they need to man up because they spend their free time playing video-games. Now my hobby is being blamed every time some addled troll threatens somebody over twitter as "proof positive" that gamers are: Insert whatever agenda you want, misogyny, racist, etc Now I see gender ideologues posing as "culture critics" who want to police creative thought and force their s----- ideology onto people. Where the f--- were these people in the 1980's when geeks were literally bullied and beat up in school for liking video games? Where were these people when nerd culture was just getting off the ground? Oh thats right, it wasn't a multi-billion dollar behemoth it is today and these people want a seat at the table after others took the punches and put their blood,sweat and tears into breathing life into this industry and culture People from my generation helped build geek culture into being accepted in society, these people were nowhere to be found back then. That is why I fight in #gamergate I am sick and tired of my hobby being attacked and blamed for s---. I am sick of my hobby being used to further some s----- political agenda by people who find misogyny literally everywhere. These people could find misogyny in their own local grocery store with their twisted worldview I want my hobby left alone, I want games to speak for themselves, let the free market sort out what people want in games. I am sick of these lazy, no talented hacks, professional complainers, go around and police other peoples creative works. Why don't these professional complaining asshats go make their own products and compete in the market? If their politically correct ideas are so good, why don't they create their own games? Because its easier to trash other peoples ideas and work through bullying. These people are nothing more than arm chair, I find misogyny everywhere critics who want to become the thought police in all creative works. I don't care what your ideology is, stop forcing it onto people. I don't want to hear about"Cis-gendered, white male privilege in video games." X Journalists would make claims of people like Anita Sarkeesian "playing video games all her life" when she openly admitted many times she is not a gamer and only starter recently (when it wasn't for an interview). Various developers trading sex or money for good reviews got exposed, journalists who accepted got exposed. People became a bit more critical about supporting a game just because the developer has a victim complex stating tat their game could have only failed because of sexism, instead of their own poor developing skills. What really sealed the deal was opposition often faking their own harassment. Anita sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn have been caught multiple times screenshotting "harassment" while showing that the harrasser's account name in the login. Or when someone called the police to help Sarkeesian against a "very real threat" she was posting about, only for police to find the harasser's messages were coming from her IP address.
